Geumcheon-myeon in Naju-si, Jeollanam-do is attracting attention by hosting a lively celebration for elderly residents who have reached their 80th birthday.
The Geumcheon-myeon Community Social Security Council (co-chairs Choi Yoonim and Kim Duseong, hereafter Geumcheon-myeon Jisahyeop) announced on the 30th that it recently held a ‘Happy 80th Day’ event at the Wonchon 2-ri Wonchon Senior Center.
‘Happy 80th Day’ is one of Geumcheon-myeon Jisahyeop’s specialized projects that provides cakes, rice cakes, and refreshments to octogenarian seniors while wishing them health and longevity. It is held four times annually, once each quarter.
At this event, a Nanta performance team including committee member Bae Sangsuk energized the seniors with an exciting Nanta show and an impromptu singing contest.
A senior who attended the event expressed gratitude, saying, “It was wonderful that Geumcheon-myeon held a birthday party and provided rice cakes and food. I feel like I have become several years younger after laughing and chatting with peers I hadn’t seen in a long time.”
Committee chairman Kim Duseong said, “It was heartwarming to see the seniors dancing to the Nanta performance, and I hope they cherish these moments as precious memories. We will always strive for the welfare of local seniors with the heart of caring for our own parents.”
Geumcheon-myeon Mayor Choi Yoonim expressed, “We thank everyone who helped organize the 80th birthday celebration for the village elders. We will actively work in various ways to ensure that the seniors live healthily and happily.”
