Busan City's First Support Ordinance and Secured Military Budget of 123 Million Won
Applications Open Until May 20 for Seniors Aged 65 and Over Who Have Lived for More Than One Year
Busan Gijang-gun is promoting a medical assistive device support project for seniors aged 65 and older this year, aiming to support active aging activities for the elderly.
This project targets local seniors who suffer from hearing loss or mobility difficulties and experience inconvenience in daily life but have not received welfare equipment support. It provides financial assistance for the purchase of hearing aids and adult walkers.
Last year, through the proposal of an ordinance by the Gijang-gun Council, the county established the first support ordinance in Busan and secured a budget of approximately 123 million KRW entirely from county funds to actively promote the support project starting this year.
The support targets seniors aged 65 or older who have had their resident registration address in Gijang-gun for more than one year as of May 1, 2024, and currently reside there continuously. The application period is from May 1 to May 20, and applications can be submitted to the welfare team at the administrative welfare center in their respective town or township. However, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for each item, and those who have already received hearing aids or adult walkers through related laws or other support projects are excluded.
By the end of May, the county will finalize the selection of 100 hearing aid recipients and 20 adult walker recipients after verifying duplicate benefits and other procedures. Selected recipients will receive support for the actual purchase cost up to a maximum of 1,179,000 KRW per hearing aid and up to 250,000 KRW per adult walker.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “We hope that seniors facing difficulties in daily life will receive hearing aids and walkers to actively engage in social activities within the community,” and added, “We will continue to promote various projects for senior welfare.”
For detailed eligibility criteria, inquiries can be made at the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s town or township or at the Senior Welfare Team of the Senior and Disabled Welfare Division in Gijang-gun.
