2024 Bulgyo Expo Also Draws Attention
Comedian Yoon Seong-ho, known as 'New Jin Seunim' for creating a 'hip' Buddhist event featuring EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and DJing, expressed his thoughts on the public's high interest, saying, "It was an amazing experience I had never encountered in my life until now."
On the 30th, Yoon met with the press after paying a courtesy visit to Jinwoo Seunim, the Chief Executive of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, at the Korean Buddhist History and Culture Memorial Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul. On this day, he explained the reason he took on the role of 'New Jin Seunim,' saying, "I have always been a Buddhist, and my mother has been visiting temples for a long time. I am learning more about what Buddhism is. If given the opportunity and if people want it, I want to share what I have learned."

He also mentioned that the response was so enthusiastic during his recent DJing performance as New Jin Seunim in Taiwan that it surprised him, and that a performance in Malaysia is also scheduled soon. He explained, "Many things have happened that I had never experienced before in my life. When I came back from the Taiwan performance, I was so surprised. They treated me like an idol, which was astonishing."
On this day, Jinwoo Seunim presented Yoon Seong-ho with gifts such as a headset and prayer beads. Jinwoo Seunim joked, "New Jin Seunim has been enjoying himself and giving joy and hope to young people, so if he ordains, he will do even better." New Jin Seunim responded, "I will wear these (gifts) and widely propagate Buddhism through music."

Meanwhile, Yoon Seong-ho became the star of the show as New Jin Seunim at the 2024 Seoul International Buddhist Expo held on the 4th. This Buddhist expo was prepared with various unique events targeting the younger generation, which may be why it became a hot topic on social media (SNS).
Yoon Seong-ho's Dharma name, 'New Jin,' means to move forward (進) newly (New). At the event, he struck a brass bowl in rhythm with EDM music and encouraged audience participation with enthusiastic service.
The unique event, different from the typical Buddhist image, attracted the attention of the 10-20 age group. The parking lot became full due to the number of visitor vehicles coming to see the expo, to the extent that the organizers had to send out guidance messages.
