Earlier, in March, after finishing a city administration question during a special plenary session at the city council, Councilman Park publicly proposed to Ms. Song, saying, "Will you marry me?" which became a hot topic. He said, "She has many things I do not have, so I did not want to lose her," and added, "I felt I had to make a public announcement to win this woman, so I chose this method."
While some supported Councilman Park's actions, there were also criticisms that making a personal proposal in the plenary session was inappropriate conduct. In response, Councilman Park said, "I expected negative opinions from the start when planning a public proposal in the plenary session." He apologized, saying, "I think it was inappropriate and I am sorry," but also stated, "Even if I had to endure that, I really wanted to convey my feelings."
After the marriage news became known, Councilman Park said, "The voices of support for the public proposal in the plenary session grew louder and gave me strength," and added, "The public proposal in the plenary session seems to have hastened the marriage. Since it became a nationwide topic, I will live happily and well so as not to cause trouble to anyone."
