Earlier, last month, B, who works in the Naju City Policy Promotion Office, was caught driving with a blood alcohol concentration at the license suspension level and is also reported to have refused the alcohol test. Additionally, in January, C from the Traffic Department was confirmed to have been caught at the license cancellation level.

With three public officials from Naju City already caught driving under the influence this year, there are growing calls for countermeasures.

Some point out that drinking with farmers, which is customarily conducted in the eup and myeon and dong areas, as well as drinking during lunch by some public officials, is also problematic.

A Naju City official stated, "Since three DUI cases have been detected in the past four months, we will take severe disciplinary action."

Meanwhile, last year, the Road Traffic Act was amended, strengthening the DUI punishment standard for all drivers from a three-strike-out system to a two-strike-out system.
