Incheon International Airport Corporation is seeking collaboration with Boston Dynamics, a leading company in the robotics field.
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that President Lee Hak-jae visited Boston Dynamics in Massachusetts, USA, on the 29th (local time) to explore strategies for introducing robots at Incheon Airport. Founded in 1992, Boston Dynamics is a robotics company specializing in developing various types of robots, including walking robots. It was acquired by Hyundai Motor Group in 2021.
During the meeting, the use of Boston Dynamics' quadruped robots for airport security tasks such as explosive detection and removal was discussed. Future plans also considered applying robotic technology in various airport areas, including passenger guidance, baggage handling, and cargo loading within the cargo terminal.
President Lee proposed not only deploying robots in the actual industrial sites of Incheon Airport but also utilizing Incheon Airport as a testbed for newly developed robots. The corporation also discussed plans to permanently exhibit Boston Dynamics' robots in a 24-hour digital exhibition hall to be established near Incheon Airport.
President Lee said, "It was a valuable time to discuss whether Boston Dynamics can join Incheon Airport's journey to become a next-generation digital airport," adding, "The collaboration between the two companies is expected to create great synergy that exceeds everyone's expectations."
