The international relief and development NGO Good People (Chairman Kim Cheon-su) announced on the 30th that it has signed a business agreement with DGB Financial Group (Chairman Hwang Byung-woo) and the Korea National Park Service (Chairman Song Hyung-geun) to preserve the ecosystem of Palgongsan National Park and promote sustainable development.
The business agreement ceremony held on the 29th at the Palgongsan Maekseomseok Youth Hostel was attended by Good People Chairman Kim Cheon-su, DGB Financial Group Chairman Hwang Byung-woo, and Korea National Park Service Chairman Song Hyung-geun, among others.
Good People and DGB Financial Group will carry out social contribution projects to enhance the social and environmental value of Palgongsan National Park and help marginalized neighbors enjoy Palgongsan as well.
This project is significant as it is the first win-win cooperation since Palgongsan was promoted to a national park.
First, a 1-night, 2-day ecological exploration program will be operated for 150 people from group homes and foreign workers in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who find it difficult to visit Palgongsan due to economic hardships.
In addition, the DGB Financial Group university student volunteer corps will conduct environmental conservation activities such as removing invasive plants and carrying out wildfire prevention campaigns, focusing on the Palgongsan Eastern Native Plant Garden and the Chilgok Gasan District trail in the west.
Furthermore, to provide visitors with an opportunity to participate in sharing, a funding campaign will be conducted for climate change response and the creation of barrier-free trails.
Visitors to Palgongsan who complete various missions such as using reusable containers, plogging, and mountain climbing certification can receive special goods unique to Palgongsan National Park.
If the campaign goal is achieved, with support from DGB Financial Group, a barrier-free trail accessible to people with disabilities and the elderly will be created in the Palgongsan National Park Native Plant Garden, and lunch boxes will be provided to children at risk of food insecurity in the Daegu area.
On the day, about 30 DGB Financial Group employees gathered in a damaged forest area within the Palgongsan National Park Native Plant Garden before the agreement ceremony and participated in environmental conservation by planting 200 trees including Zelkova, Spiraea, Deulkkaeongnamu, Kogwangnamu, and Chongqing trees.
Korea National Park Service Chairman Song Hyung-geun said, “Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will continuously strive to preserve the ecosystem of Palgongsan National Park in a healthy way through cooperation with Good People and DGB Financial Group,” adding, “In the future, the Korea National Park Service will expand cooperative projects further to become a good example of environmental, social, and transparent management practices in the public sector together with various cooperative entities.”
DGB Financial Group Chairman Hwang Byung-woo said, “I hope this agreement will help raise awareness and interest in the beauty of Palgongsan National Park and assist it in becoming a famous mountain nationwide,” and added, “We will actively practice ESG activities for sustainable development in harmony with the environment.”
Good People Chairman Kim Cheon-su said, “I am pleased to be part of helping vulnerable groups in the local community enjoy Palgongsan, a natural environment representing Daegu and Gyeongbuk,” and stated, “We will do our best to ensure Palgongsan is well established as a beloved national park for a long time.”
