Andong City (Mayor Kwon Ki-chang) will begin accepting applications for the ‘2024 Andong Regional University Student Academic Encouragement Fund Support Project’ starting May 1.
The Academic Encouragement Fund Support Project is a pledge of the 8th local government administration, providing university students enrolled in universities in the Andong area with an annual ‘Academic Encouragement Fund’ of 1 million KRW. This policy is designed to foster local talent by creating stable academic conditions for students.
The eligible applicants are university students currently enrolled in one of the three universities in the Andong area?Andong National University, Catholic Sangji College, and Andong Science College?who are registered residents of Andong City as of the application date and have an average grade of 70 points (C) or higher in the previous semester.
Applications must be submitted to the university where the student is enrolled between May 1 and June 28. The Academic Encouragement Fund Support Project is the first nationwide case of cooperation and mutual development between local governments and universities in the Andong area, expected to revitalize the region by encouraging university students residing in other areas to transfer their residency here, thereby increasing the youth population.
Mayor Kwon Ki-chang of Andong stated, “We will nurture region-specific talent for regional innovation and university development, and create conditions for residents to settle locally so that the region and universities can grow together.”
An official from Andong City said, “We have prepared a budget of 4.4 billion KRW to provide employment encouragement funds this year. This amount can provide 1 million KRW each to 4,400 students, which is 50% of the 8,800 students enrolled in the three universities in the Andong area. If the number of applicants increases, we will secure additional funds through supplementary budgets.”
