Seongbuk-gu to Operate 2024 Youth Social Entrepreneur Academy

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will operate the ‘Seongbuk-gu Youth Social Entrepreneur Academy’ for high school students from May to September.

Applications from participating schools were accepted from mid-February to early April, and a total of five high schools will participate. Starting with the first class on May 9, each school will have 3 to 5 sessions or a single special lecture.

A social economy expert instructor will visit each school to provide education and mentoring on ▲basic concepts and values of the social economy ▲roles of social enterprises and analysis of sustainable business model cases ▲exploration of local community issues ▲collaborative challenges through the ‘Rollercoaster’ activity ▲and meetings with active social entrepreneurs.

After the academy ends, a ‘Seongbuk-gu Youth Changemaker Idea Contest’ will be held for participating students. The contest will be conducted in the form of submitting a video presentation of a business plan that can solve local community problems with innovative ideas from youth.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, “I hope this social economy education will be a meaningful time for our youth to understand and empathize with social values, and that it will be an opportunity to realize that many social enterprises around us, which we have not recognized before, contribute to society by practicing values of coexistence and sharing beyond profit.”
