Gangnam-gu Holds Public Hearing on Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Report for Seongnam~Gangnam Private Expressway

Held at Gangnam Community Center on May 3rd at 2 PM... Collecting Resident Opinions on Highway Plans Connecting Gaepo IC and Irwon IC

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced that the public hearing for the draft Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of the Seongnam~Gangnam Private Investment Expressway, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will be held on May 3rd at 2 PM at the Gangnam-gu Community Center.

The Seongnam~Gangnam Private Investment Expressway, proposed as a private investment project in 2016, is planned as a 9.5 km section of a small vehicle-only expressway with a lane width of 3.25 meters, connecting Geumto-dong in Seongnam to Gaepo-dong and Irwon-dong in Gangnam.

The Gaepo IC of this road connects to Yangjae-daero, and the Irwon IC connects to Yeongdong-daero. In the future, it will link with the underground section of Dongbu Expressway and the Yongin-Seoul Expressway, which is currently disconnected at Heolleung-ro, creating a new north-south transportation axis connecting Seoul and the southeastern metropolitan area.

At the residents' briefing session on the draft Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment held on November 9th last year, residents expressed concerns about increased traffic congestion caused by the expressway adjacent to apartments, disruption to school commuting environments, noise, dust, and other inconveniences. They demanded ▲ opposition to Gaepo IC and Irwon IC ▲ opposition to the expressway passing under Hansol Village Apartments ▲ establishment of Heolleung IC. Following residents' requests for a public hearing in December, this session has been arranged.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “Through this public hearing, we will actively listen to residents' opinions on the Seongnam~Gangnam Private Investment Expressway project and request that they be reflected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.”
