According to foreign media including the BBC on the 29th (local time), a cat named ‘Galena’ was found at an Amazon logistics warehouse in California six days after going missing in Utah, USA.
The cat’s owner, Carrie Clark, realized on the 10th that her pet cat Galena had disappeared. Clark and her family searched their home and neighborhood for the cat and created posters about the missing pet, which they also posted on social media, but they could not find her.
News of the pet came about six days later on the 17th. Clark received a call from a veterinarian in California, approximately 1,050 km from her residence, saying that Galena was being cared for. The veterinarian explained that an Amazon warehouse employee found the cat inside an Amazon package box, brought her to the hospital, and scanned the microchip implanted in the cat to contact Clark.
Clark said, “At first, I didn’t believe the news that my pet was alive. I thought it was a joke,” adding, “When I realized the cat had gotten into the package box, I cried.”
The cat, who had a habit of liking to get inside boxes, had sneaked into a return package box without the owner noticing, and the box was shipped as is to the logistics warehouse in California. It was reported that the return box contained several pairs of work boots.
The day after receiving the call, Clark flew to California with her husband and reunited with her pet cat Galena. The cat had not eaten or drunk water for six days and showed slight dehydration symptoms but was reported to be in good health.
In an interview with local media, Clark said, “There was a gap in one seam of the box that allowed the cat to breathe, and the weather was neither too cold nor too hot, so we were able to safely recover Galena,” adding, “I recommend implanting microchips in pets and checking packages three times before sending them.”
