To Enhance Understanding of the Expanded Major Accident Punishment Act...Legal Obligations, Case Law, and Support Programs Provided
Businesses with 5-49 Employees Can Participate Regardless of Industry, Online or On-site Registration Available on the Day
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will hold an explanatory session on the Serious Accidents Punishment Act for small and medium-sized workplaces with 5 to 49 employees at the district office auditorium on May 8.
As of January 27, 2024, the scope of application of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act has been expanded to workplaces with 5 or more but fewer than 50 employees. To alleviate business owners' concerns and enhance understanding of the legal provisions, an educational opportunity has been prepared.
The lecture will focus on the basics of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. A professional instructor from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will explain the legal obligations and precedents that business owners must follow to help prevent safety accidents.
Additionally, attendees will learn about establishing safety and health management systems, risk assessments, and measures to prevent serious accidents. Government support programs such as the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s ‘Industrial Safety Diagnosis’ will also be introduced to provide necessary assistance.
The target audience is workplaces located in Gwangjin-gu with 5 to fewer than 50 employees. All industries including restaurants, academies, daycare centers, manufacturing, and traditional markets are eligible. Registration is open to the first 300 applicants on a first-come, first-served basis via the ‘Safety and Health Education Portal,’ and on-site registration on the day is also possible.
The explanatory session will start at 2 p.m. and both business owners and workers can participate. A certificate of completion will be issued to those who complete the training, and customized consulting for establishing safety and health systems will be provided.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We prepared this explanatory session to reduce confusion among small and medium-sized businesses following the expanded enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act,” adding, “We have included practical information that business owners need to know, so we ask for active participation.”
