Cellist Choi Ha-young will make her debut on the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York, USA, on June 2.
The Korea Mecenat Association announced on the 29th that Choi Ha-young has been selected as the first performer for the 'Carnegie Hall Debut Concert Support Project' planned by the association. The 'Carnegie Hall Debut Concert Support Project' is a support program by the Korea Mecenat Association to introduce Korea's next-generation performers on Carnegie Hall, the 'dream stage' for musicians worldwide.
Choi Ha-young is sponsored by seven companies including Byucksan Engineering, Amorepacific Foundation, Noroo Holdings, Dongsung Chemical, CJ Cultural Foundation, DXchange, and the Arts Tree Forum of the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.
Choi Ha-young gained attention by becoming the first Korean to win first place in the cello category at the 2022 Queen Elizabeth Competition.
At her debut stage held at Zankel Hall in Carnegie Hall, Choi Ha-young is scheduled to perform for about 80 minutes, featuring works such as Webern’s ‘Three Pieces for Cello and Piano,’ Schubert’s ‘Arpeggione Sonata,’ Britten’s ‘Cello Sonata,’ Poulenc’s ‘Cello Sonata,’ Debussy’s ‘Cello Sonata,’ and Messiaen’s ‘Chant pour l'?ternit? de J?sus.’ On June 3, the day after the concert, she will hold a masterclass in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center New York.
The Korea Music Foundation is co-organizing this performance. Established in New York in 1984, the Korea Music Foundation is a non-profit organization supporting Korean performers’ activities in the United States. Kim Kyung-hee, CEO of the Korea Music Foundation, expressed special expectations for this project, saying, "Recently, the American classical music scene has been paying attention to the remarkable skills of Korean performers."
Yoon Young-dal, chairman of the Korea Mecenat Association, said, "While the individual capabilities of performers are important for the growth of K-Classic, creating an environment that supports them is even more crucial," adding, "This project aims to promote outstanding Korean performers to major overseas management companies and record labels and to establish their presence."
