Expanding the Base of Everyday Literature for Adult Learners

Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Tae-sang) Digital Literary Creation Department held a special lecture on the 27th at the 4th floor book cafe of the Centum Campus, inviting Professor Lee Seung-ha from the Department of Literary Creation at Chung-Ang University, under the theme "Literature of the Perennial Years, the Fruits of Its Harvest Season."

Professor Lee Seung-ha is one of the leading domestic writers active as a poet, novelist, and literary critic.

In the special lecture, Professor Lee emphasized, "Poetry is the art of language, a treasure trove of our language, and it is a product of experience to the extent that even speaking honestly can become poetry. Poetry is an act of revealing my flaws, so there is no need to be ashamed, and it must contain new elements such as compassion for humanity. Poetry should focus on the themes of human birth, aging, sickness, and death, and aim for criticism of civilization."

Professor Lee added, "The Digital Literary Creation Department at Gyeongnam Information University is the first case where life literature has been introduced as a formal course for adult learners during a difficult period for literary creation. I hope that many power storytellers of the digital world will be nurtured in a space optimized for adult learners."

Mr. Kwon Sang-won, who attended the special lecture, said, "Through this humanities special lecture, I was able to learn about the diversity and know-how of poetry. It was a valuable time for everyone preparing to become poets who write good works."

Professor Jung Yoo-ji (head of the Digital Literary Creation Department), who conducted the special lecture, said, "Inviting the renowned mid-career poet Lee Seung-ha to the university book cafe, which boasts top-level facilities, was a good opportunity to boost the confidence of adult learners. We plan to prepare teaching and learning programs to enhance their educational satisfaction."

The Digital Literary Creation Department at Gyeongnam Information University, as a partner department of the Korea Digital Poetry Association, opened for the first time this year at the Centum Campus and is striving to expand the base of life literature for adult learners.
