Sony Robotics Demonstrates On-Device Vision AI 'BrainBot' at Seoul City Briefing Session

Sonid Robotics, a subsidiary of Sonid, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 29th that it gained attention by showcasing its on-device video analysis AI "BrainBot" at the "5th Smart Construction Technology Briefing" hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Urban Infrastructure Headquarters.

Hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, this briefing is an event held since last year to discover solutions for smart construction technology and national accident prevention and disaster response. This is the fifth session. Sonid Robotics also participated in the 1st Smart Construction Technology Briefing held last year, where it introduced its "Safety Reconnaissance Robot Solution."

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, out of 26 new construction technologies designated last year, seven were classified as smart construction technologies. Among construction new technologies, those that integrate and utilize advanced IT technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), drones, robots, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data are classified as smart construction technologies.

At this event, Sonid Robotics presented a construction site safety monitoring system applying the on-device vision AI "BrainBot." When BrainBot is connected to existing general CCTV installed at construction sites, it can be upgraded to AI CCTV. The AI CCTV features the ability to identify objects and assess human behavior and conditions through AI software embedded directly on the board without needing to connect to the cloud, thereby preventing accidents in advance. In emergency situations, it can automatically send alarms to relevant agencies and share the site status.

Sonid Robotics completed the development of BrainBot last month in collaboration with an Indian developer. The product consists of hardware (board) and software (application), and analyzes video data in real-time through advanced computer vision and artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically detect specific events or human behaviors.

According to Transparency Market Research, the domestic video surveillance market is estimated to grow from 3.81 trillion KRW in 2020 at an average annual growth rate of 5.28%, reaching 5.46 trillion KRW by 2027.

Park Kwon-hwan, head of research at Sonid Robotics, stated, "Currently, we have registered 10 domestic patents for ▲ AI robot-based construction site safety management systems ▲ patrol systems using autonomous robots and drones ▲ emergency response systems for industrial sites using multi-sensor robots," emphasizing, "We have already completed technical verification and have a technological advantage over other companies."

Meanwhile, Sonid Robotics plans to accelerate its overseas expansion through Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent registration for BrainBot. The PCT international patent allows simultaneous application and registration in 158 member countries worldwide.
