April 30, 4 PM, District Office Lifelong Learning Center to Host Public-Private Partnership Gender Statistics Forum
Sharing Residents' Awareness for Gender Statistics Development, Discussing Ways to Promote Gender Equality Culture
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that on the 30th at 4 PM, it will hold the gender-sensitive statistics forum "Geumcheon Gender Equality Here Talk, Geum·Seong·Yeo·Talk" at the Lifelong Learning Center of the district office.
"Gender-sensitive statistics" refer to statistical data produced to reflect the conditions and social contributions of women and men separately, as well as the needs and specific issues of both genders. They reveal gender-based inequalities in various aspects of society and were created to eliminate them.
The forum was organized jointly by the district and the private organization "Facing Gender in the Village" (hereafter Majenma) to promote a culture of gender equality. Forty stakeholders in the women and family sectors, including the Korea Women's Policy Institute, heads of women and family-related institutions, and members of private organizations, will attend.
In the first part, moderated by a Majenma representative, the results of the "2023 Geumcheon-gu Resident Awareness Survey for Building Gender-Sensitive Statistics" will be shared. Last year, the district conducted a resident awareness survey on four areas?gender equality awareness, family life, safety, and economic activities?targeting a total of 652 people (373 women and 279 men) in collaboration with the private organization Majenma to compile gender-sensitive statistics for Geumcheon-gu.
In the second part, stakeholders in the women and family sectors, including Jeon Jong-mi, Director of Geumcheon-gu Family Center; Kim In-ho, Team Leader of Geumcheon-gu Childcare Support Center; Kim Hyun-sook, Director of the Southern Women's Development Center; Lee Dong-seon, Director of the Information and Knowledge Sharing Center at the Korea Women's Policy Institute; Lee Tae-soon, Head of Family Policy Division at Geumcheon-gu Office; and Park Eon-kyung, a member of Majenma, will discuss ways to spread a culture of gender equality in Geumcheon-gu. Experts from related organizations and activists will gather to share each institution’s projects and offer various opinions for the development of gender equality culture in Geumcheon-gu.
A Majenma representative said, "Last year’s survey was a meaningful time to examine the gender equality awareness of Geumcheon-gu residents," adding, "We hope the survey results will be actively utilized in various policies of Geumcheon-gu."
The results of the "2023 Resident Awareness Survey for Building Gender-Sensitive Statistics" can be found on the Geumcheon-gu Office website e-Gotgan.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "This gender-sensitive statistics forum is significant as the first case of public-private cooperation to build gender-sensitive statistics," and added, "We will continue to promote gender equality policies to create a women-friendly city in Geumcheon-gu where women’s growth and safety are realized."
