Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held the ‘2024 B-Boy World, Redroad International Street Dance Festival’ on the 27th around the Hongdae Redroad area.
About 2,000 people, including Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, local council members, merchants' associations, and residents, attended the opening ceremony to celebrate the festival’s launch.
The opening ceremony began spectacularly with the ‘Redroad Challenge,’ performed by about 100 residents to celebrate the festival, hosted by popular MC Jo Young-gu. This was followed by a greeting from Mayor Park Gang-su, congratulatory speeches from guests, viewing of the opening video featuring the Redroad characters ‘Kkaebi’ and ‘Kkaesun,’ and a drawing performance.
Next, the festival’s highlight, the ‘Redroad Dance Battle,’ commenced. Six teams selected through preliminary judging showcased dazzling performances on stage, drawing continuous cheers from the audience.
After the fiercely competitive dance battle, which was hard to judge for superiority, celebratory performances were held by Jinjo Crew, who have won numerous b-boy competitions, top dance singer Kim Wan-sun, and Hyolyn, a popular girl group SISTAR member, bringing the festival atmosphere to its peak.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “Hongdae Redroad is a space that holds the history of popular culture, having produced many successful artists,” adding, “As dance is emerging as a major global culture, I hope excellent artists will be born at the Redroad International Street Dance Festival.”
Mapo-gu’s representative festival, the ‘2024 B-Boy World, Redroad International Street Dance Festival,’ will be held until the 28th across the entire section from Hongdae Redroad R1·R2 to R6, where infrastructure improvement works have been completed.
