Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival D-1... 'Fanfare' in Yeonggwang on the 29th

"A Platform to Awaken Pride and Courage in Disabled Athletes"

The '32nd Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival' will be held in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeonnam, from April 29 to May 1, for the first time in 14 years.


Marking its 32nd edition this year, the festival will take place at Yeonggwang Sportium under the slogan "Unfold the Dream of Hope in the Great Yeonggwang-gun." A total of 2,759 participants from 22 cities and counties will compete in 21 official events, including sitting volleyball, showcasing the skills they have honed over time.

The opening ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 29th at the Yeonggwang National Sports Center. For the first time in the festival's history, the flames of the Jeonnam Sports Festival and the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival will be lit, carried, and united simultaneously.


The ceremony will proceed with the entrance of city and county athletes, a welcome speech by the Yeonggwang County Governor, raising of the tournament flag, the chairman's address, congratulatory speeches, the oath by athlete and referee representatives, lighting of the flame, and a celebratory performance. Famous singers such as Kim Suchan and Kang Hyeyeon will be invited to provide a spectacular stage for the participating athletes and spectators.


Various side events will also be held during the festival. In front of the Yeonggwang Sportium National Sports Center, more than 30 diverse booths will be operated, including experiences of disabled new sports such as Boccia and Hangung, a sports rehabilitation experience center, a wheelchair equipment repair center, and information and communication assistive devices for athletes and spectators to enjoy.

The closing ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. on May 1 at the Yeonggwang Sportium National Sports Center, where comprehensive awards from 1st to 8th place for cities and counties will be presented. Following this, awards such as the Most Valuable Player Award, Model Team Award, Achievement Award, and Encouragement Award will be given, and the tournament flag will be handed over to Jangseong-gun, the host of the next festival.


Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, expressed his gratitude to the approximately 50,000 residents of Yeonggwang who made efforts to host the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Festival, saying, "Many residents of the province gain hope from seeing the true spirit of sports and the transformation into the main players of Jeonnam sports."
