A magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred off the southern coast of Java Island, Indonesia.
According to the United States Geological Survey, at 11:29 PM local time on the 27th, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck in the sea area 102 km south of Banjarci, West Java Province, Java Island, Indonesia. The epicenter was located at 8.11 degrees south latitude and 107.27 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 68 km.
Due to this earthquake, buildings and houses were damaged, including ceilings collapsing in Sukabumi, West Java Province. The capital Jakarta, the capital of West Java Province Bandung, and satellite cities of Jakarta, all located more than 200 km in a straight line from the epicenter, were also affected by the earthquake.
According to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, the earthquake was also detected in West Java Province, East Java Province, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (Jogjakarta).
Indonesian authorities reported that no injuries have been reported yet and there is no possibility of a tsunami, but caution is needed due to the possibility of aftershocks.
