Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center, the leading agricultural center in the southern Seoul area operating for the 4th year... Bountiful harvest of eco-friendly bananas in the greenhouse... Harvested bananas will undergo ripening process and be provided free of charge to urban agriculture experience activists
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has experienced a milestone with the largest banana harvest since the opening of the 'Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center,' a leading agricultural center in the southern Seoul area, located at 96 Nakseongdae-ro.
The greenhouse at Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center is used for experimental cultivation of various tropical crops such as oranges, blueberries, and bracken. This year, the banana plants have shown excellent growth, resulting in a large quantity of fruit.
The recently harvested bananas amounted to about 18 bunches per tree, totaling approximately 100 individual bananas.
After undergoing a ripening process, the harvested bananas will be provided free of charge to urban agriculture experience participants visiting the Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center until supplies run out.
Established in 2021, the Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center is a two-story urban agriculture cultural complex with a total floor area of 905㎡.
The first floor houses experience rooms, a book caf?, a seed library, a greenhouse, and a nursing room, while the second floor includes classrooms, a special exhibition hall, and a permanent exhibition hall, making it the largest urban agriculture cultural center in southern Seoul.
Additionally, in 2023, the center received the Excellence Award at the Korea Public Architecture Awards, recognizing its outstanding architectural design.
Going forward, the district plans to continue its efforts through the Gang Gam-chan Urban Agriculture Center to prepare for climate change and environmental pollution and to protect our environment and agriculture.
