HMM has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the safety management of ships and crew members. The AI detects and alerts in cases of fire, smoke, worker falls, or collapses on board.

On the 26th, HMM announced the adoption of the AI video analysis solution 'DeepEyes.' DeepEyes is a safety monitoring system equipped with CCTV that automatically recognizes abnormal situations and issues warnings. It immediately notifies managers or broadcasts alerts in the event of emergencies such as fire, smoke, workers not wearing safety gear, falls, or collapses.

Although ultra-large vessels measure approximately 300 to 400 meters in length?equivalent to 3 to 4 soccer fields?the number of crew members on board is only 23 to 25. To overcome the limitations of managing with a small crew and standard CCTV around the clock, DeepEyes was introduced.

HMM plans to install DeepEyes in 15 locations, including the engine room and deck, on a 24,000 TEU container ship next month for a pilot operation. After verifying its effectiveness, the company intends to expand its implementation.

An HMM official stated, "The introduction of AI technology to strengthen safety management will elevate the level of ship safety management. In the future, we plan to actively utilize video analysis to identify workers' behavior patterns and standardize work safety."
