Appointment and Activity Launch of 12 Human Rights Guardians at Eunpyeong-gu Elderly Medical Welfare Facilities
Expected Improvement in Elderly Human Rights Sensitivity and Protection
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced the launch of the ‘Elderly Medical Welfare Facility Human Rights Guardians’ activities to strengthen the human rights of elderly residents in elderly medical welfare facilities.
The ‘Elderly Medical Welfare Facility Human Rights Guardians’ are honorary elderly welfare guides who visit designated facilities to protect elderly residents in elderly medical welfare facilities and monitor factors related to human rights violations to prevent elder abuse.
They are composed of individuals well-versed in local community conditions and with extensive knowledge and experience in elderly welfare.
At the appointment ceremony and meeting held on the 24th, appointment certificates were awarded to 12 human rights guardians, and the activity manual for the guardians was introduced. Additionally, to enhance the guardians’ expertise in elderly protection, human rights education was conducted under the theme ‘Understanding Elderly Human Rights and Elder Abuse Prevention.’
The human rights guardians will begin their activities on May 1, targeting 23 elderly medical welfare facilities in the region. They will conduct human rights monitoring of facility directors and staff, interview residents, and inspect facility environments. In particular, through activities such as recommending corrections for human rights violations and discussing improvement measures, they will strengthen the protection of the human rights of elderly residents and support a healthy and dignified old age within the facilities.
Eunpyeong-gu plans to actively support the human rights guardians by monitoring their activity status and listening attentively to any difficulties they face, ensuring they can effectively serve as facilitators for protecting elderly human rights within elderly medical welfare facilities.
The Eunpyeong-gu human rights guardians stated, “The role of human rights guardians is important in creating an environment that protects human rights in elderly medical welfare facilities,” and added, “We will continue to strive to ensure that elderly residents in facilities can live healthy and stable lives.”
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “We expect the Elderly Medical Welfare Facility Human Rights Guardians to enhance the human rights sensitivity and promote the protection of human rights for our elderly residents.”
