Yongsan-gu, Hannam 3 District Civil-Government-Police Joint Night Patrol

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) conducted a joint night patrol involving civilians, government, and police at the Hannam 3 Redevelopment Promotion Zone (hereinafter Hannam 3 Zone) relocation site on the 24th.

Since the relocation began in earnest at the end of October last year, the number of vacant houses has rapidly increased, raising concerns about safety that could become lax. To heighten awareness of safety and alleviate residents' anxiety about various crimes and accidents, a regular joint patrol is conducted together with Yongsan Police Station and the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit.

The joint patrol included over 50 participants such as ▲Yongsan-gu Volunteer Crime Prevention Federation and the Boguang-dong and Seobinggo-dong Volunteer Crime Prevention Units ▲officials from the district office (Autonomous Administration Division, Cleaning Administration Division, Redevelopment Project Division, etc.) and Boguang-dong Resident Center ▲Yongsan Police Station (Crime Prevention Response Division), Boguang Police Substation, and Mobile Patrol Unit police officers.

The group gathered at Boguang Elementary School, located at the entrance of Hannam 3 Zone, and from 7:30 p.m., divided into two teams to thoroughly inspect the entire area, checking for risk factors in vulnerable areas such as vacant and abandoned houses. On-site, they also checked the emergency safety bells and their connection to the control center, as well as monitored illegal dumping status.

In particular, since vacant houses are defenseless against fires or crimes, the patrol focused on inspecting the safety conditions of vacant houses, including ▲unauthorized entry by outsiders ▲installation of locks on gates ▲risks posed by aging buildings.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, who participated in the patrol, said, “Hannam 3 Zone, the first among Hannam New Town to start relocation, has a long relocation period and many households involved, so careful attention is required. Until the relocation is completed, not only the Hannam 3 Zone Association as the project implementer but also our civilians, government, and police will work together to support residents to live more safely and comfortably.”

Before the relocation began, the district office established a close cooperation system with the Hannam 3 Zone Association through prior consultations regarding cleaning, safety, and vacant house management. To prevent the area from becoming a crime hotspot, an additional 352 crime prevention CCTVs were installed within the zone, and a 24-hour integrated control comprehensive situation room and two security posts were operated. Furthermore, 30 specialized personnel organized into teams of two are deployed to conduct night patrols.
