On May 9th at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei
Schumann and Brahms Piano Duo Performance
Pianist Kim Jun-hyung, the resident musician of Kumho Art Hall in 2024, will perform a duo concert with Japanese pianist Yukine Kuroki at Kumho Art Hall Yonsei on May 9.
As the resident musician, Kim Jun-hyung plans to hold four performances this year under the title "Short Stories." This concert will be the second stage of the series.
The subtitle of this concert is "In the Beautiful May." "In the Beautiful May" is also the title of the first song in Schumann's song cycle "Dichterliebe."
Kim Jun-hyung and Yukine Kuroki will perform piano duets by Schumann and Brahms in this concert.
Schumann and Brahms are composers at the center of authentic Romantic music, leaving behind music filled with poignant and brilliant lyricism. In the first part of the concert, Brahms' arrangement of Schumann's piano quartet for two pianos will be performed, and in the second part, Brahms' sonata for two pianos will be played. Both works are adaptations of pieces originally scored for piano quartet and string quintet, respectively, arranged for two pianists.
Kim Jun-hyung began serious piano studies in the fifth grade of elementary school and debuted in 2012 with the Kumho Young Artist Concert. He gained recognition by winning the Seoul International Music Competition in 2021 and placing second in the piano category at the 2022 ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany.
Yukine Kuroki, the collaborating pianist for the "In the Beautiful May" concert, gained international recognition by winning the 2022 Liszt Utrecht Competition.
