Honored with Excellence Award in the 'Promotion of Cultural Value' Field
External Recognition for Excellence in Establishing the Gokseong-type Educational Ecosystem
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 24th that Lee Sang-cheol, the governor of Gokseong-gun, won the Excellence Award in the Cultural Value Promotion category at the ‘2024 6th Governance Local Politics Awards’.
The ‘Governance Local Politics Awards’ are held to discover and spread excellent local political cases. The awards are hosted by the Governance Center and supported by the Presidential Commission on the Local Era and the Korean Association for Local Government Studies.
The recipients are finally selected through document screening, interviews, and on-site evaluations based on various criteria such as governance implementation and achievement, innovation impact, creativity and originality, and self-development.
The governor introduced the background of establishing the Future Education Foundation, a public-private-academic alliance education platform, and the project promotion through the establishment of a governance system under the theme of ‘Building a Gokseong-type Education Ecosystem.’
‘Gokseong-type Education’ focuses on fostering creative and convergent thinking by playing and learning in nature through forest and ecological education and cultural arts education utilizing forests, natural ecology, and local community cultural resources.
By establishing a governance system among schools, parents, the education office, and the local community, it diagnoses local education issues based on community empathy and participation and responds to changes in the future educational environment.
Through operating village schools and job-linked specialized education courses that train local residents as instructors, it achieves a twofold effect of social participation and community revitalization as well as job creation.
In particular, forest and ecological education has been established as a representative specialized education of Gokseong by linking with local elementary schools and participating as part of the regular elementary curriculum. It is promoting creative and convergent education such as AI, coding, and robotics education for nurturing future talents, along with various unique educational projects exclusive to Gokseong.
Additionally, by establishing Jeonnam Science University and a lifelong education hub center, and providing various lifelong education courses targeting not only children but all residents through the LIFE 2.0 project and lifelong vocational education linked with companies, it maintains the sustainability and professionalism of education.
Governor Lee Sang-cheol said, “To create a sustainable Gokseong rather than regional extinction, we will strengthen cooperation with universities and companies,” adding, “We will continue to devote ourselves to customized creative and distinctive education to prevent the outflow of local talents through the cultivation of specialized local human resources and job creation.”
