The service was planned in response to strong customer demand for smart home security. A key feature is that it can be connected directly through the SmartThings app without going through the manufacturer's app.
The SmartThings Door Lock service has been applied to the 'Smart Door Lock K100' by IoT specialist company Akara Life.
When the door lock is connected to Samsung products with a built-in SmartThings hub, visitors' access can be easily monitored and controlled via SmartThings.
For family members or authorized visitors, fingerprints, passwords, and NFC keys can be pre-registered, allowing access notifications and records to be checked in the SmartThings app. A feature to generate and share temporary passwords is also planned for release within the first half of the year.
The service also offers personalized automation functions that recognize who has entered and execute SmartThings routines using frequently used Samsung smart products and IoT devices.
For example, when a child arrives home, a notification is sent to the parents' smartphones or Galaxy Watch. The air conditioner or air purifier in the child's room and living room is turned on. If an authorized external person such as a housekeeper opens the door, a security enhancement mode can be set to record the entrance with a home camera.
In particular, to prevent accidents where the door opens without user permission, the SmartThings app is protected based on the 'Samsung Knox' security system.
Additionally, the SmartThings app allows users to check the door lock status, including external damage attempts, high temperature detection, battery depletion, and network errors.
Samsung Electronics plans to continuously expand sales regions and applicable models to enhance customer usage experience.
Jung Jae-yeon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Device Platform Center, said, "Through the SmartThings Door Lock service, we will be able to provide customers with an optimized smart home experience for every moment they enter and leave their homes," adding, "We will further strengthen the related ecosystem to help customers realize a safer life based on SmartThings and care for their family members."
