Yangcheon-gu Provides 300,000 KRW Subsidy for Electric Bicycle Purchases... Recruiting 100 People Until May 20

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will provide a subsidy of 300,000 KRW for the purchase of electric bicycles to 100 residents to promote bicycle use, improve public health, and contribute to carbon reduction, and is recruiting applicants until May 20.

The "Electric Bicycle Subsidy Support Project" was introduced by Yangcheon-gu in 2022 and is currently the only district implementing this program. Over the past two years, out of about 2,300 applicants, 183 were selected by lottery and received a total of over 54 million KRW in support, with an average competition rate of 9 to 1, demonstrating high interest among residents.

This year's eligibility requires residents aged 18 or older who have continuously lived in the district for more than two years. The subsidy covers up to 50% of the purchase cost, limited to one bicycle per person, with a maximum of 300,000 KRW. Eligible bicycles must be electric bicycles using the "Pedal Assist System (PAS)" where the motor operates only when pedaling and stops when traveling over 25 km/h, and the bicycle must weigh less than 30 kg.

The total support scale is 100 units, of which 20 units are specially allocated for socially vulnerable residents such as recipients of national basic livelihood security, low-income groups, national veterans, and North Korean defectors. These special support applicants can also apply for the general recruitment of 80 units.

The application period is until 6 PM on May 20, and applications can be submitted online through the district office’s integrated reservation portal. On May 21, 100 recipients will be selected by electronic lottery, and the results will be announced on the district office website and notified individually by the end of May. Additionally, a reserve list of 300 candidates will be drawn to prepare for disqualified or withdrawn applicants.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, stated, “We will actively develop and implement policies to expand the use of bicycles as a key transportation means to achieve carbon neutrality.” He added, “We also separately recruit special support applicants to guarantee mobility rights for vulnerable groups and those with limited mobility, so please do not miss this opportunity to apply.”
