The 14th Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports Competition will be held for three days from the 25th to the 27th of this month at Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri in Paju City.
With the slogan "Beautiful Challenge, Moving Paju, United Gyeonggi!", this competition will host 4,942 athletes, guardians, and officials from 31 cities and counties within the province.
In this competition, professional athletes with various disabilities such as visual impairment, intellectual disability, hearing impairment, and brain lesion disabilities will compete in 17 events including gateball. Events such as lawn bowls, where players roll a ball on grass to get close to a target ball, swimming, basketball, dance sports, and e-sports will be held throughout Paju City.
Starting this year, Gyeonggi-do has established a student division (ages 13 and above) in weightlifting and athletics to nurture student athletes, and safety managers have been assigned to each event to enhance competition safety.
The opening ceremony will take place on the 25th at 5 p.m. at Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri in Paju, attended by Oh Byeong-kwon, the 1st Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi-do Administration, Yeom Jong-hyun, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Lee Young-bong, Chairman of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Kim Kyung-il, Mayor of Paju, as well as heads of city and county organizations, members of the National Assembly, provincial council members, heads of Gyeonggi sports organizations, disabled sports officials, and residents.
Gyeonggi-do and Paju City purchased approximately 500,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of all electricity used for the opening ceremony and competition events through a green premium method in line with the '100% Renewable Energy (RE100)' policy.
Oh Byeong-kwon, the 1st Deputy Governor of Gyeonggi-do Administration, stated, "Taking the 14th Gyeonggi-do Disabled Sports Competition as an opportunity, we will strive to ensure that all 580,000 disabled people in Gyeonggi-do can fully enjoy their 'right to exercise' and provide more equal opportunities so they can live healthy and happy lives."
