Gyeonggi Province will begin accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis from May 2 for participants in the first half of the ‘Gyeonggi Future Field Trip’ program.
The Gyeonggi Future Field Trip is a program where about 80 youths from Gyeonggi Province and Gwangju Metropolitan City visit each other's regions to enhance understanding of local culture and promote coexistence and cooperation. They engage in on-site experiential education and exchange, reflecting together on local stories and future issues.
In May last year, Gyeonggi Province announced a mutual development agreement for win-win prosperity, including jointly promoting educational and exchange programs to support the dreams of Korean youth, in cooperation with Gwangju Metropolitan City.
The selection target for Gyeonggi this time is elementary and middle school students living in border areas of the province, such as Paju City, Pocheon City, and Yeoncheon County, who are prioritized for educational welfare support. Schools wishing to participate can submit electronic documents as educational welfare schools.
The first half event will take place over three days from June 26 to 28, during which Gyeonggi youths will visit Gwangju Metropolitan City and participate with Gwangju youths in activities such as ▲5.18 historical exploration ▲visiting and guided tours of Yangnim-dong historical and cultural village ▲planetarium observation ▲and a memory photo exhibition.
Meanwhile, in October this year, youths from Gwangju Metropolitan City will be invited to the Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus located in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, where they will engage in ▲visits to the DMZ and Camp Greaves ▲viewing the Unification Observatory ▲future issues discussion sessions ▲and lectures on peace sensitivity as well as theatrical activities.
Jo Tae-hoon, Director of Lifelong Education at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This Gyeonggi Future Field Trip is hoped to be a valuable opportunity for the youth, the future generation of Korea, to go beyond simple tourism, to jointly recognize the local issues they face, and to realize the importance of peace and harmony."
