The Consumer Sovereignty Citizens' Association (hereinafter referred to as the Citizens' Association) announced on the 24th that it has filed a complaint with the police against the Chinese e-commerce platforms AliExpress and Temu for violations of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Information and Communications Network Act.
The Citizens' Association stated, "Ali and Temu have been forcibly obtaining blanket consent for terms and conditions and the collection and use of personal information during third-party login and membership registration via Naver, Kakao, and others, despite the requirement to obtain optional consent," explaining the background of the complaint and submitting the complaint to the Jongno Police Station in Seoul.
Additionally, the Citizens' Association pointed out, "The problem is that the collected personal information could be transferred to Chinese authorities through third-party provision," and noted, "Article 7 of the Chinese National Intelligence Law stipulates that 'all organizations and citizens of China must support, assist, and cooperate with China's intelligence activities,' which heightens these concerns."
Furthermore, they claimed that Ali and Temu excessively collect and use personal information unrelated to product purchases, allowing them to monitor users' every move.
