Strict Action Against Bribery and Personal Attacks
The Reform New Party announced on the 24th that it will lower the deposit for the party convention to elect the party leader and supreme council members from the existing 50 million won to 30 million won.
The Central Election Commission of the Reform New Party's convention approved these regulations on the same day. The party plans to lower the deposit to 30 million won to reduce the barrier to candidacy and secure new talents. The Reform New Party operates under a collective leadership system, and the 30 million won deposit applies equally to all candidates.
Also, to enable a more dynamic election, party member meetings are allowed if pre-registered with the party election commission. Text message campaigns are limited to three times, and phone campaigns are only allowed by the candidates themselves. This measure considers the fatigue of party members caused by excessive texts and calls during the election period. Instead, unlimited promotion via SNS has been permitted.
Election campaigns using printed paper materials are prohibited. Only digital promotional materials can be used. Strict measures will be taken against bribery, personal attacks, slander such as black propaganda, and promises of party or public office candidacy recommendations.
Lee Jong-hoon, Chair of the Election Commission, said, "By lowering the deposit barrier, we have opened the door for more political newcomers to challenge," adding, "Online election campaigns will be maximally allowed in line with the Reform New Party's image, but slander against candidates will be strictly punished as part of eradicating old-fashioned politics."
