Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has completed the reorganization of the Women’s Happiness Support Network and taken a strong first step forward.

First Step of the 'Women’s Happiness Support Network' in Buk-gu, Gwangju

According to Buk-gu on the 24th, the “Women’s Happiness Support Network Capacity Building Training and Appointment Ceremony” was held at 2 p.m. in the meeting room on the 3rd floor of Buk-gu Office.

The Women’s Happiness Support Network is a public-private cooperative network established by Buk-gu last year, consisting of 50 members across five divisions?Equality Culture, Women’s Economy, Safety Partnership, Family-Friendly, and Capacity Building. It involves women experts, village activists interested in women’s policies, and local residents participating in overall district administration to establish women’s participation and gender equality from policy discovery to execution.

This year, Buk-gu aimed to further activate the network by strengthening women’s participation. From February to March, a two-month recruitment of additional members was conducted, significantly expanding the total number of members to 100 and completing the allocation of 20 members per division.

Accordingly, Buk-gu organized a capacity building training and appointment ceremony under the theme “A Safe and Equal Buk-gu Created and Participated in by Women” to provide an opportunity for new and existing members to meet and explore network development plans and operational directions.

The event was attended by about 100 network members and related personnel. It began with a lecture by Choi Yoo-jin (Korea Women’s Policy Institute) on “Understanding Women-Friendly City Policies and the Importance of Public-Private Cooperation,” followed by the awarding of appointment certificates to new members, a symbolic ceremony pledging gender equality, and division-specific meetings.

After the event, Buk-gu plans to actively engage the Women’s Happiness Network in discovering women-focused policies aligned with the five major goals of a women-friendly city: establishing a foundation for gender equality promotion, expanding women’s economic and social participation, enhancing community safety, creating a family-friendly environment, and strengthening women’s community activity capacities, with year-round support.
