The Chungcheong Region Metropolitan Express Railway Project (CTX), which connects Daejeon Government Complex to Cheongju Airport, is expected to gain momentum following the government's request for a private investment feasibility study.

On the morning of the 24th, Baek Won-guk, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, conducted an on-site inspection at the CTX departure station, Government Daejeon Complex Station, and then attended the 2nd CTX Governance Meeting at the Daejeon City Hall main conference room.

At the meeting, Vice Minister Baek stated, "CTX will introduce express trains with a maximum speed of 180 km/h, the same as GTX, connecting major hubs in Daejeon, Sejong, and North Chungcheong within one hour, sparking a transportation revolution in the Chungcheong region." He added, "We plan to request a private investment feasibility study from KDI on the 25th."

Vice Minister Baek emphasized, "This large-scale project spans 65 km from Government Daejeon Complex Station to Cheongju Airport Station, with an investment of over 5 trillion won from private capital and national funds during the six-year construction period, which will invigorate the Chungcheong region's economy." He also stressed, "To pass the private investment feasibility study by the second half of next year, the Ministry of Land, local governments, private sector, and public institutions must work as one team."

The private investment feasibility review is of the same nature as the preliminary feasibility study for fiscal projects, and passing it will accelerate project promotion such as detailed design and construction commencement. The government plans to proceed with the project aiming to start construction in 2028 and open in 2034 after the private investment feasibility study.

President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on January 25 at a public discussion on livelihood that the Chungcheong Region Metropolitan Railway was selected as the pilot project for local metropolitan express railways (x-TX).

Daejeon City, Sejong City, and North Chungcheong Province welcomed the Ministry of Land’s request for the KDI private investment feasibility study, expressing hope that the project will proceed smoothly with the goal of opening in 2034.

The three Chungcheong region cities and provinces expressed expectations, stating, "CTX, the most fundamental core project of the Chungcheong Mega City promoted as a strategy to counter the concentration in the metropolitan area, will create a 30-minute living zone for the major hub cities of Daejeon, Sejong, and Cheongju once it opens at a speed of 180 km/h."
