'Bucheon Tap Water Cleaner' Advanced Water Treatment Facility Construction to Resume Next Month... Completion in 2027

Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that it will resume the installation construction of the advanced water purification facility at Kkachiwool Water Purification Plant next month to provide safe and clean tap water. The completion is scheduled for the first half of 2027.

The construction of the advanced water purification facility had been temporarily halted due to its inclusion in the small-scale underground safety evaluation, pending consultation with the National Land Management Office. However, with recent consultations concluded, the project has now resumed.

The advanced water purification facility improves water quality by decomposing and removing tap water odors and contaminants that cannot be eliminated through conventional purification processes, using ozone oxidation and activated carbon adsorption filtration methods.

The city plans to invest a total of 67.5 billion KRW by 2027 to install the advanced water purification facility on a 5,154㎥ (1,559 pyeong) site at Kkachiwool Water Purification Plant, with one basement floor and three above-ground floors. Once completed, it will be capable of producing 201,000 tons of highly purified tap water per day.

Kkachiwool Water Purification Plant, the only one in Bucheon, supplies tap water to Ojeong-gu and Wonmi-gu. The remaining Sosa-gu district receives tap water from the nearby No-on Water Purification Plant in Gwangmyeong City. The No-on Water Purification Plant is also scheduled to install an advanced water purification facility by the end of 2028.

A Bucheon City official stated, "Once the advanced water purification facility is operational, it will effectively remove odors and fine contaminants from tap water even during the summer monsoon season or algal blooms when water quality deteriorates. We will continue to produce and supply cleaner and safer tap water."
