‘Cutieful’ Park Hyun-kyung “I Like the KLPGA Championship”

2024 Season's First Major Tournament Opens on the 25th
Park Hyun-kyung Has 2 Wins in This Tournament Out of Her 4 Career Wins
Go Woo-soon Holds the Record for Most Wins with 4 Victories in This Tournament

There are players who gain strength when participating in certain tournaments.

‘Cutieful’ Park Hyun-kyung “I Like the KLPGA Championship” Park Hyun-kyung is challenging for her third victory at the major KLPGA Championship.

‘Cutieful’ Park Hyun-kyung is one of them. She achieved good results at the KLPGA Championship, a major tournament on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour. Out of her four professional wins, two were earned at this tournament. It is a ‘grateful’ tournament that firmly established the name Park Hyun-kyung. The KLPGA Championship was launched in 1978 and is the longest-standing tournament sharing history with the KLPGA.

Park Hyun-kyung won this tournament in 2020 and 2021. If she wins this year, she will join the late Ku Ok-hee and Kim Soon-mi, who each won three times. The record holder for the most wins is the late Ko Woo-soon with four victories. Park Hyun-kyung is looking forward to the 46th KLPGA Championship presented by Chris F&C (total prize money of 1.3 billion KRW), the first major tournament of the 2024 season, held over four days from the 25th at Lakewood Country Club (par 72, 6,554 yards) in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do.

Her current condition is also good. Although she has not won recently, she placed in the ‘top 5’ in the last three tournaments: Doosan Construction We’ve Championship (tied 3rd), Mediheal·Hankook Ilbo Championship (tied 3rd), and Nexen·Saintnine Masters (tied 4th). Park Hyun-kyung, who is currently first in the points race, said, "This is my favorite and most meaningful tournament," adding, "I want to do well, but I will try to stay calm and keep my mind clear."

Last year’s champion Lee Da-yeon is aiming for her second consecutive win. She said, "Due to a back injury early in the season, my condition is not yet 100%," but added, "I will do my best to defend my first career title in this tournament." Other contenders for the title include Lee Ye-won, who has one win this year, and Hwang Yu-min, who is currently first in the prize money rankings. Additionally, Bang Shin-sil, who recently returned from the Chevron Championship, a major on the LPGA Tour, and Park Min-ji, who rested last week, are also aiming for victory.
