Ulsan City to Provide Annual Payment of 1.3 Million Won

Ulsan City announced on the 24th that it will provide an annual direct payment of 1.3 million KRW to small-scale fishing households and crew members to reduce income disparities among fishers and stabilize fishing household incomes.

The eligibility criteria for small-scale fishing household direct payments include holding a coastal fishing permit, aquaculture license/permit, or a permit for fish seed production, or reporting activities such as seaweed farming, and meeting the following conditions: △ engaged in fishing for more than 3 years △ total tonnage of fishing vessels within the household is less than 5 tons △ total fishing income of household members is less than 150 million KRW △ individual comprehensive income outside of fishing is less than 20 million KRW and household income less than 45 million KRW.

The application period is from May 1 to June 30, and applications can be submitted at the administrative welfare centers in the applicant’s town, township, or neighborhood.

However, only one person per fishing household can apply, applicants must reside in fishing villages, and the fishing business registration must be completed by the direct payment application deadline.

Direct payments for crew members will be provided to domestic crew members, and eligible applicants are those who have maintained an employment relationship with the owner of a coastal fishing vessel for at least 6 months within a year and have boarded the vessel.

The Ulsan City officials stated, “We plan to actively promote so that all fishers who meet the direct payment eligibility requirements can receive the payments.”
