Gangbuk-gu Expands Villa Management Offices to Mia, Songjung, and Suyu 2-dong

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced the results of the expansion public contest for the Villa Management Office and selected two neighborhoods, Mia·Songjung and Suyu 2-dong, on the 17th. Starting from July, the Villa Management Office project will be implemented in two zones: Mia-dong 258 area (Mia·Songjung-dong) and the area from Gwangsan Intersection to the April 19th Democratic Cemetery (Suyu 2-dong).

The Villa Management Office is one of Mayor Lee Soon-hee’s campaign pledges introduced to systematically manage small-scale multi-family housing like villas in the same way as apartments.

In last year’s pilot project area in Beon 1-dong (Beon-dong 458~463, 472 area), services such as ▲collection and cleanup of household and recyclable waste ▲focused management of unauthorized dumping sites in multi-family housing ▲cleaning of alleys and parks around multi-family housing ▲simple repairs of common facilities ▲toolbox rental ▲identification of safety hazards ▲guidance and support for illegal parking enforcement requests were provided. As a result, resident satisfaction with the Villa Management Office reached 94%.

Based on these results, the district decided to operate the Villa Management Office in the Mia and Suyu zones this year to improve residents’ living environments. In March, applications were accepted from nine neighborhoods excluding Beon-dong, where the pilot project is underway, and Samgaksan-dong, which has a dense concentration of apartment complexes.

As a result of the contest, a total of 12 applications were received from eight neighborhoods: Samyang, Mia, Songjung, Suyu 1, Suyu 2, Suyu 3, Ui, and Insu-dong. On the 17th, the district held an expanded area selection committee meeting to review seven application zones excluding overlapping areas.

The evaluation was conducted based on five criteria: density of multi-family housing, aging of multi-family housing, number of supporters for the Villa Management Office project, necessity for residential environment improvement such as illegal dumping, flooding, and parking difficulties, and conditions of the management office site. Six internal and external committee members participated in the evaluation.

As a result, Mia-dong 258 area (Mia·Songjung, total floor area about 150,000 ㎡) and the area from Gwangsan Intersection to the April 19th Democratic Cemetery (Suyu 2-dong, total floor area about 260,000 ㎡) received high scores and were selected as the final target sites. The district plans to establish detailed operational policies for the expanded zones, conduct a pilot operation period in June, and implement the Villa Management Office project in the two selected zones starting in July.

Meanwhile, starting this year, the district has supplemented and expanded the Villa Management Office project by implementing ▲support for installing recycling bins ▲installation of CCTV for illegal dumping control ▲consulting support for maintenance of common facilities such as rooftop waterproofing and wall repairs ▲detection of hidden cameras in public restrooms ▲installation of safety bells in Villa Management Office alleys ▲resident participation projects linked to community revitalization ▲comprehensive guidance and linkage of district services.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, “Even if residents do not live in apartments, we plan to gradually expand the Villa Management Office project so that all residents can enjoy a pleasant living environment in Gangbuk-gu.” She added, “Since this project has received great public support, we will operate the Villa Management Office with substance so that the effects of the project can be strongly felt.”
