A Popular Spot Transformed for Citizens and Tourists
The hiking trails around the Green Environment Center in Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongbuk, have transformed from the image of a waste landfill into a popular hot spot frequented by citizens.
This location is close to the city center, making it easily accessible, and it is gaining much attention as a healing space.
The area around the Green Environment Center has been redecorated with 600 meters of surrounding night lighting and interior lighting on landscaping trees installed in February this year, turning it into a place where visitors can also enjoy the night view from Yeongcheon Riverside Park.
Recently, hundreds of people visit the Green Environment Center hiking trails daily, and it is expected that even more citizens will visit as the warm weather continues.
The city has attracted visitors through spring renovations such as planting moss phlox, adding dust removers, maintaining walking mats, and installing unmanned people counters.
Yeongcheon-si has been carrying out various improvement projects to transform the Green Environment Center landfill from an undesirable facility image into a place familiar to citizens and popular among tourists by collecting public opinions, installing deck roads, operating healing buses in the mountains, and creating additional parking lots.
Choi Ki-moon, mayor of Yeongcheon-si, said, “We will strive to provide citizens with a pleasant and beautiful space through continuous management of the Green Environment Center hiking trails, a healing spot for citizens, and enhance the image of Clean Yeongcheon.”
