Three-Day Consultation on Returning to Farming and Rural Living for Urban Residents Starting from the 19th
Various Policies Including 'Agricultural Startup Support' to Attract Urban Residents Implemented
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, participated in the ‘2024 Smart Return-to-Farming and Rural Youth Startup Expo’ and won the ‘Excellence in Promotion Booth Award.’
The event, held for three days from the 19th to the 21st at the Suwon Convention Center, was co-hosted by Yonhap News Agency and NongHyup.
At the site, Gokseong-gun actively provided consultations to urban residents and youth hoping to return to farming or rural areas, offering information on support benefits and various details related to returning to farming and rural living, thereby increasing visitor satisfaction.
Additionally, during the event, Gokseong’s specialty products were exhibited and introduced to visitors.
Gokseong-gun has established various support policies for attracting urban residents to return to farming and rural areas.
To address the initial settlement difficulties in rural areas, the county is promoting the ‘Return-to-Farming Agricultural Startup and Housing Purchase Support Project,’ a loan program for returnees; the ‘Return-to-Farming Doctor’ program, which pairs returnees 1:1 with leading farmers to transfer agricultural know-how; the ‘Farmhouse Repair Cost’ support of 5 million KRW per household; and the ‘New Agricultural Workforce Development Project,’ which provides 12 million KRW per household (50% subsidy, 50% self-payment).
Moreover, through the ‘Living Well in Jeonnam’ project, which helps participants understand cultural differences between urban and rural areas and find new success opportunities in rural communities, 4 participants (28.5%) successfully relocated to Gokseong-gun.
A county official stated, "To reduce failures in settling rural areas by returnees, Gokseong-gun provides sufficient preliminary information and systematic education, operates the Gokseong Return-to-Farming and Rural Support Center, and supports various activities. We will do our best to ensure stable rural settlement for urban residents."
