Busan Gijang-gun Celebrates Bicycle Day with Public Bicycle 'Tabanna' Event

On the 22nd, Gijang-gun, Busan, held a commemorative event with the public bicycle ‘Tabanna’ along the Jwagwangcheon area in Jeonggwan-eup to celebrate ‘Bicycle Day’.

Busan Gijang-gun Celebrates Bicycle Day with Public Bicycle 'Tabanna' Event Gijang-gun held a Bicycle Day commemorative event together with 'Tabanna'.

‘Bicycle Day’ was designated as a legal commemorative day in 2010 to boost the pride of bicycle users and promote bicycle use. The date April 22 was chosen as the commemorative day because April is a good season for cycling and the number 22 symbolizes the two wheels of a bicycle. Various events to celebrate this day are held nationwide every year on April 22.

The event was held with the participation of about 50 people, including County Governor Jeong Jong-bok, volunteers, and members of the Gijang-gun Saemaul Association.

Participants rode the public bicycle ‘Tabanna’ of Gijang-gun and promoted the campaign while riding along the beautiful Jwagwangcheon bicycle path. They also distributed promotional materials to residents to encourage the use of ‘Tabanna’ and bicycles.

Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “I hope this event will serve as an opportunity to actively promote the public bicycle Tabanna,” and added, “We will strive to improve the bicycle environment in the region to further activate the use of bicycles as a green transportation mode and help Gijang-gun become an eco-friendly ecological tourism city.”

The public bicycle ‘Tabanna’ in Gijang-gun can be easily used by anyone aged 13 and older through a dedicated app, and the operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Since its pilot operation began in July 2022, the number of registered members has exceeded 13,000, and the cumulative usage has surpassed 44,300 times, effectively serving as a means of transportation for residents.

Additionally, the county is continuously maintaining bicycle roads along with enrolling Gijang residents in bicycle insurance, and is making efforts to promote bicycle use by expanding bicycle convenience facilities such as bicycle racks and air pumps.
