Public Official Who Posted Criticism of District Council Member on Bulletin Board Under Police Investigation

The Bukbu Police Station of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 23rd that it has been conducting a related investigation since receiving the complaint from Council Member A last month.

An anonymous author posted a critical comment on the Saeol Local Administration System bulletin board of the administrative computer network on the 22nd of last month, targeting Council Member A's ordinance proposal aimed at enhancing the transparency of Buk-gu’s treasury operations. The author wrote, "How can you claim to have actively reflected the recommendations for improving the corruption impact assessment when you yourself were fined? If you had reflected them so well, why didn’t you heed the Ethics Review Advisory Committee’s recommendation for expulsion?"

Council Member A was sentenced to a fine of 15 million won in the second trial last July for intervening in various projects, including facility improvements ordered by Buk-gu, from October 2018 to May 2020, and awarding exclusive contracts worth approximately 91.7 million won to two companies with direct or indirect connections to himself.

Previously, in July of last year, a post evaluating all 20 members of the Buk-gu Council was uploaded to the Buk-gu Office public official community, causing controversy and leading the council to request an investigation.
