Kim Min-seok Also Withdraws... Democratic Party Set to Confirm Park Chan-dae as New Floor Leader

Kim Min-seok "I intend to focus on the issue of party member sovereignty"
One candidate Park Chan-dae declares run... Backed by pro-Myeong faction support

Kim Min-seok, who was mentioned as a potential candidate for the next floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has hinted that he will not run. Since the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction, centered around leader Lee Jae-myung, has taken control of the 22nd formation, the atmosphere is narrowing down to Park Chan-dae, a close aide of Lee and an official candidate for floor leader.

On the 23rd, Kim Min-seok posted on his Facebook, "Two weeks after the general election. I have carefully considered what to do with a broad and long-term perspective," and "I intend to focus on the issue of party member sovereignty." This is interpreted as his intention not to run for floor leader but to seek other roles, including promoting 'party member sovereignty.'

Kim explained, "More party members, more discussions, and more authority are needed," adding, "Since designing the 2002 public primary, I have observed the expansion of party member sovereignty, and I deeply felt that party members and citizens were the true driving force behind this nomination revolution and the general election victory. I am convinced they are the real guarantee for the next greater victory and continuous reform." He further emphasized, "Increasing the participation of party members and citizens in political and policy decisions is the spirit of the times," and "The core of the political reform plan I proposed during the general election was party reform to expand party member sovereignty."

Following the announcements of Seo Young-kyo and Kim Sung-hwan, who had expressed intentions or were considered candidates for floor leader, that they would not run, Kim Min-seok also stepping down narrows the candidate pool to Park Chan-dae, Park Ju-min, and Han Byung-do.

However, as of the afternoon of the same day, Park Chan-dae is the only one who has officially declared his candidacy. Park has supported Lee Jae-myung’s campaign since the last presidential election and has worked closely with Lee as a Supreme Council member in the leadership. On the 21st, he held a press conference at the National Assembly, stating, "With a strong two-top system of Leader Lee Jae-myung and Floor Leader Park Chan-dae, we will create a reform National Assembly and a livelihood National Assembly that fulfills the mission entrusted by the people."
