Starting from the 29th of this month, a fine of 100,000 KRW will be imposed for smoking around the "Seodaemun Cafe Waterfall" by the Hongchecheon Stream. Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 23rd that the cafe waterfall, which has emerged as a hot spot in Seoul, along with the surrounding sidewalks, roads, and parking lots, has recently been designated as a non-smoking area.
The designated area covers approximately 220 meters, from 266 Yeonhui-ro (SK Gas Station) to the boundary at 370 Moraenae-ro. It was designated on the 29th of last month, and there is a one-month grace period until the 28th of this month. The district office has officially notified the public of the non-smoking area designation through the district bulletin, the district office website, and bulletin boards.
District Mayor Lee Seongheon stated, "We expect to prevent secondhand smoke damage by designating non-smoking areas in multi-use facilities, and we will actively expand smoking cessation support and smoke-free environment creation projects to reduce residents' smoking rates and promote health."
Meanwhile, Seodaemun-gu is implementing various smoking cessation projects throughout the year, including smoking prevention education, youth smoking cessation programs, smoking cessation clinics, smoking cessation campaigns, and inspections of non-smoking areas in public facilities.
