Pukyong National University, Selected as Busan's Most with 4 Teams in 'Female Graduate Engineering Research Team Program'

Kim Doyeon, Baek Sena, Kang Myungji, Im Heesoo... 8 Million KRW Research Funding Supported Per Team

National Pukyong University (President Jang Young-su) announced on the 23rd that four research teams were selected in the advanced course category of the '2024 Graduate Women Engineering Research Team Support Project.'

Organized by the Korea Foundation for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (WISET), this project supports outstanding female graduate students to take the lead as principal investigators, form research teams with science and engineering undergraduates, conduct self-directed research and development, and develop research capabilities and leadership to advance in their respective fields.

National Pukyong University achieved the distinction of having the highest number of teams selected in Busan for three consecutive years, with four teams chosen from Busan out of 100 teams across eight divisions nationwide in this year's project.

The principal investigators of the four teams selected in the advanced course category are Kim Do-yeon (Master's program) from the Department of Materials Engineering, Baek Se-na (Doctoral program) from the Department of Marine Production Management, Kang Myung-ji (Master's program) from the Department of 4th Industrial Convergence Bionics Engineering, and Lim Hee-soo (Master's program) from the Department of Smart Green Technology Convergence Engineering. Each team will receive up to 8 million KRW in research funding until October.

Kim Do-yeon is researching the project titled "Non-enzymatic Non-invasive Metabolite Sensor for Diabetes Monitoring and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Using Electrochemical Active Catalysts" (Advisor: Professor Lim Hyo-ryeong), while Baek Se-na is working on "A Study on Eco-friendly Biodegradable Fishing Gear for Sustainable Fisheries" (Advisor: Professor Kim Sung-hoon).

Kang Myung-ji is conducting research on "The Potential of Cancer Stimulation through Wavelength-dependent Photobiomodulation" (Advisor: Professor Kang Hyun-wook), and Lim Hee-soo is working on "Development of CNF Conductive Materials for All-solid-state Batteries to Commercialize High Safety All-solid-state Batteries" (Advisor: Professor Oh Pil-geon).

Pukyong National University serves as the regional host university for WISET’s Southeast region project to nurture female talent in science and engineering. It operates the "Promotion Project for the Advancement and Utilization of Women in Science and Engineering (Director Son Min-young)" and carries out various initiatives to expand the capabilities of female science and engineering talents and promote their entry into new technology fields.
