Pre-inspection of 20 Rainwater Pump Stations and Floodgates, Realistic Medium Pump Operation Drill at Seonjeongneung on the 22nd... 180 Additional Flood Control Equipment Units Deployed, Test Operation Check of 3 Hangang Nadulmok Yukgapmun Gates on the 24th from 10 AM to 1 PM
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is conducting a comprehensive inspection of facilities and equipment such as rainwater pumping stations and sluice gates to prepare for heavy summer rains, and will perform a test operation of the Yukgapmun sluice gate at Hangang Nadeulmok on the 24th.
From March to April, the district carried out management inspections and test operations at eight locations including the Daechi Rainwater Pumping Station and 12 sluice gates including the Daechi Drainage Gate. They thoroughly checked ▲the management status of key electromechanical facilities such as pumps and power distribution panels at pumping stations ▲test operation of sluice gates and the condition of hoists, door frames, and door leaves ▲CCTV, water level gauges, and communication status. Notably, this year, a simulated operation drill of a medium-sized pump was conducted at the Seonjeongneung detention basin. The drill held on April 22 assumed an actual flooding scenario in a large building and performed the entire process from unloading, wiring, to operation of the medium-sized pump, reaffirming disaster response capabilities.
Additionally, the district inspected flood control equipment such as submersible pumps held at rainwater pumping stations and local community centers, and purchased 180 additional flood control devices this year. By distributing 90% of the secured flood control equipment to each community center and Gangnam Fire Station, they plan to provide rapid support in case of building flooding in underground residences. In May, training on pump operation will be provided to field personnel.
On April 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a joint test operation inspection of the Yukgapmun sluice gates at three locations?Sinsa Nadeulmok, Gangnam Nadeulmok, and Sincheongdam Nadeulmok?will be conducted with Seoul City. The Yukgapmun sluice gate is a floodgate designed to block river water from flowing into the city in case of Hangang River flooding due to heavy rain, and normally serves as a passage for residents to access Hangang Park. The test operation will verify the normal opening and closing of the sluice gates and inspect the condition of hoists, door leaves, door frames, and check for sediment and foreign substances accumulated inside the lower door frame.
Since the Yukgapmun test operation inspection simulates a Hangang River flood situation caused by heavy rain, pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be completely restricted. The district plans to minimize citizen inconvenience by implementing vehicle control with the cooperation of related organizations such as Gangnam Police Station and the Future Hangang Headquarters, and by posting banners to inform about the restricted traffic times and detour routes.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “This summer, abnormal weather is expected to bring heavy rain, so we have thoroughly inspected important facilities to minimize damage. Not only through pre-inspections but also by establishing a rapid response system via the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for flood and wind disasters, we will protect the lives and property of our residents.”
