SK Securities Conducts 'Cigarette Butt Picking' with Yeongdeungpo-gu

On the occasion of 'Earth Day,' SK Securities announced on the 22nd that it conducted a 'Making Yeongdeungpo Free of Cigarette Butts' campaign together with local companies around Yeouido.

This activity was held as part of the 'Public-Private Cooperation ESG Practice Campaign' on April 22, Earth Day, to raise awareness about the issue of microplastic pollution from cigarette butts entering the ocean.

About 100 participants, including more than 20 SK Securities employees, Yeongdeungpo District Office, Daol Financial Group, Shinhan Investment Corp., Conrad Seoul, Yeongdeungpo Volunteer Center, and CSR Impact officials, carried out a campaign focused on cigarette butt collection and proper disposal around smoking booths in the Yeouido area. Using cigar wraps (sealed paper for cigarette butts) allows cigarette butts to be stored in cigarette packs and then properly disposed of in trash bins, helping to prevent illegal dumping and environmental problems.

Illegally discarded cigarette butts block rainwater drains, causing flooding, and flow into the sea, becoming pollutants such as microplastics that harm marine ecosystems. This creates a vicious cycle that ultimately threatens our dining tables, where seafood consumption is frequent.

SK Securities recognized the importance of biodiversity early on and, in January, became the first single securities company to join the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). It also operates an internal environmental campaign group called Green Hero, leading member-centered ESG practices such as 'Happy Sharing Forest Cultivation' and 'Resource Circulation Campaign' to restore ecosystems.
