Dongdaemun-gu 'Disabled Persons Grand Festival' Successfully Concluded

On the 19th, a Disability Day Commemoration Event Held on the 2nd Floor Auditorium of Dongdaemun-gu Office
Awarding Certificates of Merit to Exemplary Welfare Recipients and Various Celebration Performances Arranged

Dongdaemun-gu 'Disabled Persons Grand Festival' Successfully Concluded

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that on the 19th, the ‘Disability Festival’ hosted by the Seoul Disabled Persons Association Dongdaemun-gu Branch (Chairman Jungseok Choi) was held in the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office to commemorate the 44th Disability Day.


About 800 people including persons with disabilities and volunteers attended the event, which began with a lively pungmul performance as a prelude. During the first part of the ceremony, 15 individuals who contributed to disability welfare were awarded commendations, and part of the proceeds from the collection of used clothes was given as scholarships and living support funds to 12 low-income students and residents recommended by various disability organizations.


In the second part of the event, seven teams including ▲Dasarang Art Troupe ▲Dongdaemun-gu Women’s Choir ▲Nanuri Harmonica Volunteer Group ▲Seoul City University Cheerleading Team IKUS presented various congratulatory performances.


To commemorate Disability Day, Dongdaemun-gu held events throughout April such as camps and outings organized by disability groups and facilities, disability awareness improvement education, and operation of experience booths.


On the 25th, the ‘Together Healing’ walking event for persons with disabilities and the ‘Animal-Assisted Healing Program’ where participants interact with Healing Ma (Horse) Wolly, jointly promoted by Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation and the nonprofit organization Howlhoe, are scheduled to take place.


Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu who attended the event, stated, “I support the efforts of many people working to create a society where differences are not inconveniences, and I will do my best to move toward a warm society where everyone walks together.”
