Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center Conducts 'Metal Conservation Treatment' Training in Indonesia

Strengthening Self-Capabilities for Cultural Heritage Preservation and Management

The Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage is conducting a 'local technical training' at the Borobudur Conservation Office in Indonesia until the 2nd of next month. This is a customized training program for local cultural heritage conservation practitioners. Since 2013, it has been implemented targeting Asian countries with weak cultural heritage conservation and management infrastructure, including Mongolia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan. The program provides education tailored to local conditions to strengthen self-capacity in cultural heritage conservation and management.

This is the second training held in Indonesia. The first was conducted last July at the National Museum in Jakarta. This year’s participants are twenty-four practitioners from eighteen museums under the Indonesian Ministry of Museums and Cultural Heritage. They learn and practice an advanced course in metal conservation treatment, including ▲theory on the use of equipment for metal cultural heritage conservation ▲case studies and practice of outdoor metal sculpture conservation treatment ▲theory and practice of conservation treatment for excavated metal craft cultural heritage ▲on-site recovery and emergency conservation treatment practice for excavated metal craft cultural heritage ▲conservation treatment of metal and ceramic cultural heritage damaged by fire. A representative from the institute explained, "Each participant individually produces test samples to practice the actual conservation and restoration process."
