"Indoor Temperature Drops 10℃ with a Single Film"…Hyundai Motor Applies Pilot in Pakistan

Hyundai Motor's Nano Cooling Film Technology Nears Commercialization
Pilot Installation on Over 70 Vehicles in Pakistan
Enhances Driver Comfort and Contributes to Air Pollution Reduction

Hyundai Motor Company is providing transparent radiative cooling films that can lower the interior temperature of vehicles by more than 10℃ simply by applying the film, helping drivers in Pakistan battle the heat.

On the 22nd, Hyundai announced that it will carry out the "Made Cooler by Hyundai" campaign in Lahore, the second largest city in Pakistan, by applying nano cooling films free of charge to the windows of over 70 vehicles.

Due to security reasons, Pakistan strictly prohibits the application of tinting films on cars. As a result, drivers must endure the sweltering heat inside their vehicles, which absorb sunlight directly, with summer temperatures exceeding 50℃. Alternatively, they have to run the air conditioner at a high fuel cost. Notably, Lahore was selected as the city with the worst air pollution in 2022. Excessive air conditioner use during summer has been identified as a cause of increased fuel consumption and accelerated air pollution.

In March, Hyundai conducted a campaign providing transparent nano cooling films to over 70 local customers. This film reflects part of the solar heat while remaining almost transparent. It is a groundbreaking technology that can lower the interior temperature by up to 10℃ in hot weather without violating local traffic regulations.

The nano cooling film applied in this campaign is at the final stage before commercialization. By collecting empirical data through pilot application, quality for mass production can be secured later. Hyundai expects this campaign to not only improve driver comfort but also reduce fuel consumption, contributing to environmental improvement.

Minjae Lee, Principal Researcher at Hyundai Motor and Kia Basic Materials Research Center, said, "It is meaningful that we have raised the technical completeness of the nano cooling film, which was introduced as a pioneering technology, within just a few months to contribute to improving the actual driver environment." He added, "We will continue to strive to provide technologies and products suitable for customers worldwide based on Hyundai’s technological capabilities."
