Kakao's impact commerce platform Kakao Makers announced on the 22nd that it will carry out the 'Instant Rice Container Saegabeorchi Project' in collaboration with CJ CheilJedang to collect instant rice containers and transform them into valuable products.
The Saegabeorchi Project is an eco-friendly initiative that helps solve resource circulation issues by producing new products from used materials, with sales proceeds donated to underprivileged neighbors. Launched on 'Earth Day,' this project aims to raise awareness about recycling instant rice containers and provide users with an easy way to participate in environmental protection activities.
Conducted together with CJ CheilJedang, the manufacturer of Hetbahn, participants can apply on the Kakao Makers website until the 1st of next month, with 5,000 people selected by lottery. Participants who submit more than 30 instant rice containers will receive benefits including a 3,000 KRW coupon usable on Kakao Makers and a 'Eco-friendly Hetbahn' product that uses containers with reduced carbon emissions compared to previous versions.
Kakao Makers plans to collect the instant rice containers, then clean and extract plastic raw materials to manufacture and sell daily necessities such as clocks and children's desks. All sales proceeds will be donated entirely to children.
Jeon Seong-chan, leader of Kakao Makers Creator, said, “We created this collaboration opportunity with CJ CheilJedang, who has long worked on recycling Hetbahn containers, to raise awareness that discarded instant rice containers can be recycled. We will continue to create opportunities for anyone to easily participate in resource circulation activities using products frequently used in daily life.”
Meanwhile, the Saegabeorchi Project, which started in 2022 and is now in its eighth iteration, has utilized commonly seen products around us such as used T-shirts, sweaters, shirts, down jackets, denim, aseptic packs, and coffee capsules.
